Posted by Sat Banwait on

At Fireworks Boutique we believe in cultural diversity and want our customers to learn more and celebrate all the different events each year. As 2021 Chinese New Year is fast approaching lets understand more about it.

What is Chinese New Year?

Chinese New Year is the celebration of the beginning of a new year. Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring Festival. It is the most important celebration in the Chinese calendar. The festival marks the end of the winter and the beginning of spring season. The first day of Chinese New Year begins on the new moon that appears between 21 January and 20 February. The new year is also celebrated outside of China, in countries where they have a significant Chinese population and by many others all over the world.

In Chinese tradition each year is named after one of 12 animals. All of which feature in the Chinese zodiac, Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig.

When is it?

This year Chinese New Year is celebrated on 12th February 2021.

How is it celebrated?

Normally, the evening before New Years day is a time for families to gather or the annual reunion dinner. It’s also tradition for families to fully clean their houses, in order to sweep away any ill-fortune and to make way for incoming good luck.

On the actual day the main Chinese New Year activities can include:

Putting up decorations, festive scarlet decor is put up in streets and homes. They are associated with wealth and good fortune; red decorations are hung to ward off Nian – a lion-like monster that is afraid of the colour red.

Firecrackers and fireworks are set off because it is thought that noise and lights will ward off any evil spirits for the coming months.

The giving of red envelopes and other gifts. These red envelopes normally have cash. Employers are also expected to gift red packets to unmarried employees as a sign of gratitude.

Fireworks Boutique stocks the perfect firework to celebrate Chinese New Year, the Cobra Tail. It is designed like a Chinese firecracker. It is a long tail which can be suspended to an upright post or laid on the ground. The Cobra Tail is over a metre long and provides lots of crackle and a finale for 30 seconds. The closest to a Firecracker in the UK. The Cobra Tail has a viewing distance of 8 metre, making it perfect for your garden. At a brilliant price of only £12 this is one to not be missed.
